Join us for a monthly conversation and writing series where we chat with Emma about her recent memoir Dreams and Shadows: An Immigrant’s Journey. An immigrant from Bolivia, she arrived without her parents in 1961 as a senior in high school, knowing little English. During a long and often difficult personal journey, she became a transformative figure in American public education and in service to immigrants and refugees. As she shares snippets from her book she will guide participants to write their own stories of migration, in Spanish or English. Sessions will be held in both locations of the Studio, Buckingham and Columbia Pike. Attend one, a few, or all sessions.
